Settimo Del Frate was a student and close friend of Maestro Giuseppe Radaelli.[1] Del Frate was a 1856 law graduate from the University of Pavia, who met Radaelli in 1859 when they were members of the Monferrato Cavalry.[2] Del Frate eventually published three books on Radaelli's fencing system, the first in 1869, and the second in 1872, which was reprinted in 1876 and 1885.[3] Del Frate was inducted into the Order of the Crown of Italy with the rank of Knight (Cavaliere) in appreciation for his first book.[4] The second book received a silver medal of the first class from the Italian Gymnastic Federation in 1873.[5] During his career, Cav. Del Frate served as the Captain-Secretary of the Committee of Cavalry, and later as the commander of the Saluzzo cavalry regiment.[6] Cav. Del Frate retired as a Lt. General.[7]
